This is indeed an immense sadness to us as Donglai’s friends and colleagues. It is a huge loss to the fields of international relations and American studies in China. My last communication with him was about one month ago in middle March when I visited Nanjing. He emailed me that he was in hospital and not convenient for meetings. He then kindly connected me with his other colleagues in Nanjing University for a visit. From his colleagues I discovered the seriousness of his illness. But I still hoped he would get better and could meet him in my next trip…. This is truly shocking and devastating. 又一个英年早逝！Wish we all keep well and work hard when we still can to continue Donglai’s endeavor of promoting mutual understanding and maintaining peace between the American people and the Chinese people.
