Maija Rhee Devine:In memory of our exceptional friend
Break, dawn, break in the eastern sky
Or
Come, the light of the east
That's what his name meant
The Chinese scholar of the U.S. Constitution
We came to rub shoulders with, eat, laugh with
Don't we hear the bugle call of the U.S. Constitution?
Dawn of America, break! Burn, torch with love, justice for all!
An engine
Motoring 24-7, he churned with love of life, scholarship, students
Last June on Nanjing University's west campus
When he strode toward us
He didn't smile. His laughs exploded like
cannon balls
Ten months later
His wife sent words
Break, dawn, break in the eastern sky
Has his days "counted" with cancer
"He wishes you to know he misses you."
His days had reached full ascent in the eastern sky
Chasing darkness, laughing, savoring the fine flavors of U.S. laws
Dawn, break, dawn, where are you breaking next?
